Allergy Question

I have a question, and am hoping someone can help! I have wicked bad allergies and have always taken Claritin for them. This weekend when I was about to take my pill, Rick mentioned that they were time released and asked if that was OK for the band. It made me think, is it OK to take with the band? I take the Claritin D 24 hr, the ones behind the pharmacy counter. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks so much

  1. I think every doctor has a different opinion on this, but this is what my Dr. says. He likes us to crush our pills no matter how small they are. I know that you should never crush a time released pill because they are set up to have the medicine be released slowly over a specified time period. If you crush them you break how they are set up and you could get too much of the medication all at once which could be harmful.

However, I would think if they were small enough pills you could just take whole and I don't see any reason of why they would pose a risk because they are time released. I have a couple pills that are realtively small (about half the size of a pencil eraser) and I've never had an issue.

  4. probably fine... they are going to go into your tummy and release anyway. And I love that you used the word "wicked"... I went to HS in Mass, lived in NH and Maine for a while, grad school at BU - miss "wicked"! Whenever I say it down here (Richmond, VA) people look at me like I'm crazy!
