Product Question!

Since surgery I have kept to greek yogurt and string cheese for my daily breakfast, but recently the yogurt is becoming a little to sweet for me, and I am getting hungry before lunch time. Yesterday while @ costco I saw a box of Zone bars, it came with the Fudge Graham and Chocolate Peanut Butter flavors, and I decided to give them a try. I'm not very good @ looking at a nutrition label and knowing whats good and bad in the sugar and carb department. What do you guys think of this? Do you eat protein bars for meal replacements often?

Thanks for all your help in advance! The bar was super yummy, and it is keeping me full so far so I hope I made a good choice!!

  1. Have you ever tried the plain Greek yogurt? I love the Fage brand. Sometimes I put a little spoonful of honey or jam in it, or something I eat it plain.

  2. I'm of the "if it is keeping you full and is reasonable in the calories department, then it's a good choice" camp. At 210 calories and 14g of protein, I think it's a decent choice. Especially if it keeps you full for 4+ hours. It's a bit on the high(er) side for sugar at 15g - to put it in perspective, a regular Snickers has 30g of sugar - but not excessively so.

  3. The protein, fat and carbs are ok, but the sugar might be a little high - as a regular item in your menu. My nutionalist said to keep the sugars in the single digits. This will help keep your sugars low and make sure you are getting complex carbs instead of simple carbs - which in excess turn into fat. She overlooks it only if the sugars are from fruit, but would rather I eat a piece of whole fruit instead.

However, I am all for doing what works. My NP isn't a fan of yogurt even though it is the approved list since it is a "slippery slidey" food. I plan to eat it unless it stops working for me, but I am mixing it up with some of their suggestions.

  4. Hey lady. First, I've switched to the plain greek yogurt with granola. I love that. I definitely use the zone bars as breakfast and they are great. Can't say they keep me full for a really long time, but typically I have an iced coffee for breakfast and then have a zone bar around 11am. YUM!

p.s. I was in Boston for work (actually in Maynard) where are you?

  5. Ha....Maynard = boring. I actually lived in Andover for highschool so I know where Peabody is. I might be back the second week in January, but not sure yet. I'll let you know!

  6. I do eat protien bars. I agree that the Zone bars may be too high in sugar. I eat the atkin bars, the info is on my post in december about my top 10.
